Nasu is located at the north end of Tochigi Prefecture.Nasu
Heights are at the north east of Nikko National Park and a magnificent active
volcano called Chausu-Dake is in the center of the area. Nasu Hot Spring is
proud of its 1,360 years of history,
and is well known for the abundant hot
water nation wide.
In Kamakura era(AD 1192- 1333), Minamotono-Yoritomo who is a famous Samurai general
and Nichiren-shonin who is the founder of Nichiren faith both visited here. In
1687, a famous haiku poet, Matsuo Bashou also visited Nasu.
Currently, Nasu is famous as a resort place and well known for the dairy farming,
too. There are many town-managed or private farms and pastures
here and there. |
